Bio:

Dr. Murchland is the Guy Max Clarke Professor Emeritus of Philosophy. He has published over 200 articles and reviews on philosophical and social themes and published several books including The Age of Alienation, The New Iconoclasm, The Dream of Christian Socialism, Humanism and Capitalism and the trilogy Voices in America, Voices in American Education and Voices of Democracy. His writings have been translated into French, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, German, Greek and Czech. With academic interests primarily in the areas of the history of ideas and the philosophy of social values, Dr. Murchland teaches courses in introductory philosophy, the creative process, existentialism, America philosophy, history of medieval and renaissance philosophy, international business ethics and the philosophy of technology. He has, since 1989, edited The Civic Arts Review, a journal relating liberal education and public life, and has been a long-time associate of the Kettering Foundation. In recognition of his writing on liberal education he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in 1988. In 1991, he was the recipient of the Ohio Philosophical Association's Distinguished Scholar Award, a Certificate For Excellence in the Teaching of Philosophy from the American Philosophical Association and in 1996, he received Ohio Wesleyan's highest teaching honor, the Herbert Welch Meritorious Teaching Award.
