Beeghly Library will support your studies with its rich collection of more than 500,000 books, journals, and other scholarly resources.

Independent Research » You are encouraged to develop your creativity, initiative, and discipline by undertaking programs of directed readings or independent research. In consultation with a faculty member, you will study an issue or philosopher of particular interest, developing your own bibliography and approach. Not only is such study inherently valuable, but it demonstrates to employers and graduate schools the ability to do such work.

Visiting Lecturers » See Merrick Lecture Series on OWU Religion Department Web site.

Study Abroad » Philosophy students often take advantage of Ohio Wesleyan's many study programs in more than 20 foreign nations. Of special interest are the Yugoslavia Program at the University of Zagreb, an opportunity approved by the Great Lakes Colleges Association, and several programs in the British Isles.

Newberry Library Program » The Newberry Library is a privately endowed research center in Chicago. More than one million volumes and six million manuscripts comprise its strong general collection in Western history and the humanities from the late Middle Ages to the early twentieth century. Several of its special collections are internationally renowned. Ohio Wesleyan students may participate in a program in the humanities there, including seminars, research tutorials, and independent study.

Department Honors » Outstanding work in philosophy is recognized with our Loyd D. Easton Prize and the Daniel E. Anderson Award.
